The five Great Lakes; Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie and Ontario total a surface area of 94,600 square miles and are all connected by a variety of lakes and rivers making them the largest freshwater system in the world. You will stay or drive past all five in this 16 night self drive holiday.
Beginning at Chicago, you will have time to relax and enjoy this great lake-side city before heading north to Milwaukee, home of Harley-Davidson® and on to Green Bay and St Ignace. Cross the border into Canada for your next few nights on Manitoulin Island, The Blue Mountains, Toronto and Niagara Falls where you will stay on the Canadian side with a view of the spectacular Horseshoe Falls. You’ll then head over to the Finger Lakes in New York State and finally into New York City for your last couple of nights.

You’ll drive through Green Bay and into your third US state and to the second of five Great Lakes as you arrive in Marquette, Michigan which lies on the coast of Lake Superior, the largest of the five lakes. You’re staying here for one night.

Sault Ste Marie, Canada
The first 30 miles will be a scenic drive along the shore of Lake Superior as you head towards the Canadian border. Your destination is Sault Ste. Marie - There are two cities with the same name separated by the border and St Marys River. You’ll cross into Canada for your overnight stop.

Manitoulin Island & Lake Huron
As you head around Lake Huron, your third of the Great Lakes you will stop for two nights on the remarkable Manitoulin Island with its white cliffs and more than 100 freshwater lakes. Whilst the island offers a lot to do while your there, it is also perfect for relaxing!

The Blue Mountains
Leaving the Island will be by ferry with great scenary along the way! This is included in your package but don’t be late, there are only two per day! You’re heading to the resort town of Blue Mountain today which lies on the south end of Georgian Bay, part of Lake Huron.

Just over 100 miles away is the Ontario capital of Toronto which lies on the northwest end of Lake Ontario, our forth Great Lake. You’ll want to visit the observation deck of the CN Tower, but we also recommend a visit to the Casa Loma, a Castle style mansion built in the early 1910.

A short drive takes you to Niagara Falls which lies on the Niagara River between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, your fifth Great Lake. Your hotel room will overlook the amazing Horseshoe Falls, the cascades’ most expansive and impressive section. We highly recommend a trip in the Maid of the Mist.
